For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
A quote from a “christian” minister: “I think culture is already there and the church will continue to be even more irrelevant when it quotes letters from 2,000 years ago as their best defense, when you have in front of you flesh-and-blood people who are your brothers and sisters, and aunts and uncles, and co-workers and neighbors, and they love each other and just want to go through life with someone.” -Rob Bell- This was his response when asked about the church accepting homosexuality and same sex marriage. How one can claim to be a christian and dismiss scripture, is beyond my comprehension.
To dismiss the letters written to the churches, is to dismiss the Apostles teachings, to dismiss the Apostles teachings, is to dismiss Jesus and his teachings. One cannot dismiss the Bible and it’s teachings and call themselves a follower of Jesus the Christ. Yet, this is what is happening today.
For someone to claim quoting 2,000 year old scriptures makes believers irrelevant, then the one claiming to believe in a 2,000 year old savior has made himself irrelevant. Rob Bell is irrelevant to Christianity, thus making his comments irrelevant. He and others like him are to be dismissed as summarily, as they dismiss the scriptures.
True believers will always stand by the scriptures. Because; All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) We must continue to stand firm in the Bible’s teachings despite what the world, or so-called christians may claim about relevance.
