For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45b ESV
I have been thinking about this verse a lot lately. It speaks to God’s providence. The fact that he provides all that humanity needs despite the fact that so many people on the planet do not honor him as the creator, and sustainer of everything.
We do not have the carefree existence that the garden of eden provided, but everything we need for survival is provided for us. We may have to work to get food and shelter, but all the elements for survival are available. The planet we inhabit is perfectly suited for us.
So many today believe its just a matter of happy circumstance that we even exist at all. They believe far fetched stories about a big bang that brought everything into existence, and an incredibly slow evolution that has brought us to this point. Some may fall for the middle ground philosophy of “theological evolution”, that says God got things going, and then stepped back to allow evolution to do its job. Too many christian’s believe this lie.
I am thankful that we have such a compassionate God. He does not require recognition to do what is good, because he is good. He takes care of all of his creation whether evil, good, just, or unjust because he is perfect.
We need to learn from his example. We need to do good whether or not we get recognition for it. If we do good for recognition sake we are following in the footsteps of the Pharisees, not our Lord.
