“Tis the season”

The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:15,16 (ESV)

The political season is upon us, and so are all the opinions of how we should vote, and whom we should vote for. The issues, the parties, and the causes all demand our attention. Mudslinging everywhere, skeletons falling out of closets, what a wonderful time of the year.

Personally I get a little annoyed when fellow believers tell me what I need to do in the political arena. Its as if they think, I can’t think for myself . I need to be reminded where my allegiances need to lie. I must choose the morally correct party and so on. Truth be told every political party claims to be morally correct, yet they run down the others as being immoral. Moral correctness comes from Jesus teachings, and the teachings of His apostles, not from any political group.

As a follower of Jesus I don’t base my morals on any one political party or cause, I base my morals on the teachings of Jesus and His apostles. I do not intend to tell others how to vote, that is not my place. As a disciple of Jesus it is my intent to share His teachings and the teachings of His apostles with others. If I teach others to follow these biblical teachings, I should not need to tell them how to vote. They should already know what is the “Christian” way to vote.

If we spent as much time in the scriptures, as we do following all the political propaganda and polls we would have a much clearer view of the world we live and where we need to stand on “the issues”. We have the mind of Christ, if that isn’t a sufficient guide for our lives, and our decision making we are woefully lost.

Want to change the world? Change your mind.

“But that is not the way you learned Christ!—  assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus,  to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,  and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds,  and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:20-24 (ESV)
