Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 7:1 (ESV)
As children of promise we must live differently than the world around us. We must live holy lives out of reverence for our heavenly Father. As His children we are no longer children of wrath, but children of light.
Paul puts the responsibility for change on us. He says we should cleanse ourselves. We must put aside all the things that defile us bodily and spiritually. To do such things takes a certain level of self determination. We have to be determined to live differently in this world and not be defiled by it. It is up to us as individuals to bring holiness in our lives to completion.
The more we read our Bibles the more we come to understand that the disciples life is a life of determination. The determination to live like our master. To follow his teachings and examples, and to pass those on to others so they too can come to live is they should.
When we come to Christ we are leaving the world behind. There is so much more to our walk than attending worship and Bible classes. There is to be application of what we learn, to our daily lives. It is our responsibility to live out our discipleship in every place and situation. In and outside the family of faith we are to live a Christ like existence, because we are His.
Day to day, let’s determine to live our lives for Him and because of Him. The world will see Him in us and give the glory to our heavenly Father.
