In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
And God said…
Genesis 1:1-3a (ESV)
And God said… God spoke and everything came into being. Genesis chapter one tells that God simply spoke everything into being from nothingness. The explanation of the origins of everything is not a lengthy discourse. In thirty one short verses it is all explained. The first chapter records “And God Said” ten times. Ten times God simply said what He wanted to exist and it did.
God wanted there to be light, an expanse, dry land, vegetation, day and night, seasons, “time”, aquatic and avian life, land animals and man, He spoke it all into existence. All of this created in six days, simply because it was His will for it to be so.
What a powerful God we serve.
We must stand in awe of the fact that at any time He could have brought all of this to an end and be done with us forever, but He hasn’t. Instead, He has provided us with salvation in His Son. Because that was His will. He hasn’t sent His Son back to bring all of this to an end, He waits. Why has he waited two millennia?
Peter tells us why; “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 (ESV) It is His will that as many as will, will repent before He sends His Son.
So let’s count every day that He delays the return of His Son, as another day for as many that will, to come to repentance and be reconciled to Him. So, every day we have is a day to share the Gospel while God’s patience continues.
