Do not be deceived

Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day—just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Jude 5-7 (ESV)

Many a believer today should really meditate on this passage and what Jude wants his readers to understand. Staying on the path of righteousness is the only true hope for salvation. Falling backward or disbelieving is to lose one’s place with the savior.

Those that were saved from Egypt were ultimately lost because they didn’t believe. That whole unbelieving generation lost the promised land, due to disobedience. Wandering for 40 years in the wilderness purged out the doubters from among God’s people.

The angels that left their place in service to God and have been placed in darkness, are cut off from the Light. They can no longer dwell where He is.

Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for immorality, and stand as an example till this day, that immoral behavior will be punished.

Many today believe they can wear the name of Christ, and still live immorally. Many churches teach that this so, yet the scriptures still stand. The only way to believe this way, is to not believe what the word of God specifically says concerning immorality.

God has always condemned immorality and He always will, because that is who He is. More than two thousand years of history does not changed what is acceptable to God. There was a time when “christians” knew full well what was acceptable and what wasn’t to God. But today, many feel that those ideals concerning morality are hopelessly outdated. Truth be told, those that believe that are hopeless. They are without hope because they have left the Lord’s teachings.

Just as the church in first century needed to be reminded of what was at stake, “christians” everywhere today need to be reminded as well. Disbelief, disobedience and sexual immorality still carry the same penalty. Eternal fire.
