“FINAL NOTICE has been served”

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

Hebrews 1:1,2 (ESV)

These two verses deserve close attention. The Hebrew writer is letting the reader in on a very significant point. That point being that since God has spoken through His Son, we have received the final word from God.

These are the last days, and have been for nearly two millennia. Being obsessed with whether or not these are it right now, is a waste of time.

If we take these verses at face value we get all the information we need to know. That through Jesus, God has given us everything we need to know to get right with Him. God has spoken to us through His Son. There is no authority higher than Jesus. There is no need for further prophecies to clarify what Jesus said and did. Jesus is the final WORD.

All the prophets that came before Jesus were preparing the way for the “final notice” from heaven. Jesus served that final notice and paid the cost. The ball is now in our court. As the apostle Paul said: The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,  because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” Acts 17:30,31 (ESV) The end is coming and knowing when that is exactly won’t help anyone. Repentance today is what matters.

We need to return to God today, and live our lives for Him every day. We face trials and tribulation every day. God wants us to remain faithful in the day to day tests of faith. He is not looking for His people to prove themselves in magnificent battle. He wants them to prove themselves worthy in the daily battle. We are to be faithful unto death. Whether that death be from old age or persecution, he wants faithful children here and now.

Jesus showed us how to live as faithful children. Let’s follow in his footsteps and we won’t need to worry whether or not today is the day or not. We will be ready if we are living faithfully. God has spoken through His Son, let’s listen.
