“Basking in the Light”

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1 John 1:5 (ESV)

Thinking of God as light helps us to see His purity, holiness and presence in our lives. There is no darkness to be found in Him. Unlike ourselves and the world around us, there are no dark recesses of His being.

Knowing this about God gives us some insight into what is expected of us as we are transformed into the likeness of Jesus, which is the exact representation of God the Father. In being called to be Christ like, we are being called to be God like. That means we must really learn to deal with the world around us in a radically different way.

Jesus said this;  “For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:46-48 (ESV) We must learn to treat others the way God does.We must learn to love everyone. When we do this we are letting His light shine.

We that are His in Christ are basking in the light, we are learning day by day a new way of being. The perfection of God is to love all, that is what we are called to. Let’s be conscious of that fact in our day to day walk in the light.

Today, let’s try to see everyone we meet as someone that God loved enough to send Jesus to die for them. In that light maybe, just maybe we will see the true value of every soul around us.
