The third installment of Satan’s not dead.
In the last blog, we looked at the fact that Satan is still alive and active today. Because of that fact, Peter wrote, “ Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour ” ( 1 Pet. 5:8 , NLT). “Stay alert” ( nḗphō ) means “to be in control of one’s thought processes and thus not be in danger of irrational thinking” (LN). In this case, irrational thinking would be believing that Satan is not on the prowl. Instead, we need to recognize that “Satan is big, he’s bad, and he’s mad” (Beam). “Watch out” ( grēgoreúō ) means “to be in constant readiness” (BDAG). Satan is depicted as a “roaring lion.” He is waiting for us to let our guard down so that he may devour us. Thus, we need always to be ready to defend ourselves…
